Shailene has been a popular American actor and activist. She gained fame for her portrayal as Alexandra King - a teenage girl suffering from addiction - in The Descendants. Apart from the well-respected performance she gave during The Descendants, Shailene has played a variety of roles that showed the ability she has to portray difficult characters with ease. Shailene was able to make her mark in the world of Hollywood early on during her career, which alone is quite an accomplishment. She began her career in television and commercials, before moving on to Hollywood films. Her talents as an actor have brought her many awards including MTV Movie Awards. People's Choice Awards. and Teen Choice Awards. Some other prestigious awards like the BAFTA Awards and Golden Globe Awards were also presented to her. Shailene was an actor for a long time, however she is also a strong environmentalist. She and her mother established the non-profit All it Takes in 2010. It was awarded the Entertainment Industry Environmental Leadership Award was awarded in 2016 during the Global Green Environmental Awards 20th anniversary celebration, to mark the 20th anniversary of founding the All it Takes non-profit organization.
